Digital Competency at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman

Our Vision

DCF is a fundamental skill and a cross-curricular responsibility, alongside literacy and numeracy. We at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman believe that children and young people need to learn how to be more than consumers of technology and to develop the knowledge and skills required, to use that technology creatively as learners and future members of the technologically competent workforce. We aim to develop digitally fluent learners who are adept and confident with technology.

Digital Learning

Following an independent review of curriculum and assessment arrangements in Wales conducted by Professor Graham Donaldson in 2015, entitled ‘Successful Futures,’ the Welsh Government have created an IT framework to develop children’s digital competence, across all areas of the curriculum. Please watch the brief animation below explaining the Digital Competence Framework.

The Digital Competence Framework (DCF)

The Digital Competence Framework encapsulates the skills that will help learners thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Digital competence is one of 3 cross-curricular responsibilities, alongside literacy and numeracy. It focuses on developing digital skills which can be applied to a wide range of subjects and scenarios.

The Framework has 4 strands of equal importance, each with a number of elements.

About digital competence

Digital competence is the set of skills, knowledge and attitudes that enable the confident, creative and critical use of technologies and systems. It is essential for learners if they are to be informed, capable and have the potential to be successful in today’s society. Digital competence should not be confused with information and communication technology (ICT). Digital competence is one of three cross-curricular responsibilities, alongside literacy and numeracy; it focuses on developing digital skills which can be applied to a wide range of subjects and scenarios that are transferable to the world of work. However, it is not intended that digital competence should be artificially imposed into all subject areas. The DCF therefore includes examples of classroom task ideas that can be used to develop skills in naturally occurring, meaningful ways.
