The main aim of the department is to teach all of our pupils the main world religions, alongside contemporary issues that affect their lives. We endeavour to promote tolerance and empathy, so that every pupil can become a respectful, global citizen.
Our lessons enable pupils to:
· Acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions
· Develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures
· Develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues, with reference to the teachings of the principal religions represented in the United Kingdom and thereby develop confidence in their own beliefs and values

Compulsory Religious Studies
All pupils receive one lesson per fortnight. During these lessons we cover contemporary issues such as justice/injustice, prejudice and discrimination. The aim of the lessons is to develop positive attitudes of respect towards other people who hold views and beliefs different from our own. This understanding is important if we are living in, and contributing to an inclusive community and a society of diverse religions.
There is no examination.
KS5
At KS5 we cover the WJEC A/AS Level Religious Studies. This provides pupils with a coherent and thought-provoking programme of study, where they develop their understanding and appreciation of Jewish religious beliefs and teachings, as well as the disciplines of ethics and the philosophy of religion
